OOTD: London Nights

Oi oi girls!

Ready for a Friday OOTD? This is one of my favourite ensembles, perfect for a casual night out with the gals. On this particular London night, I went for a few drinks with my bae Miss Fu. I love this outfit because it’s easy-breezy-comfy, with just the right amount of sass. Lord knows I love the sass.

BAM!

Let’s get straight into it! This is my fave faux leather jacket from Primark. I love it because it’s really soft and goes with everything. Underneath, I wore a strappy bodysuit from the Boohoo.com Nadia Aboulhosn plus-size collection. I’ve mentioned the gorgeous Nadia in my previous post on body image. She’s one of my favourite body-positive bloggers; a plus sized fashion maven who encourages women to wear whatever the eff they want. I was so excited when her collection came out because she’s my bestie in my head!

Now these jeans fam… I’ve mentioned them approximately a thousand times. These are the Lift & Sculpt skinny jeans from M&S and I wear them as much as possible because = fierce.

On my tootsies? Leopard print peep-toe wedges from River Island. As my Fashionista Boo Rosie always says: “Animal print is a neutral.” Preach, mama.

And who doesn’t love cheap accessories? Why would I spend loads of money on stuff I’m going to swiftly wear out? This tan cross-body bag and chunky black belt were fab finds from Primark. From memory, I think both of them cost me less than 10 quid.

And there you have it darlings- the perfect Friday night fit! D’you have a go-to outfit for your weekly #TurnUp? Holla at your girl in the comments…

OOTD: FELAbration 2015!

Hey boos!

This weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Felabration 2015 #TurnUp in Accra. The event was a fabulous way to honour the legendary Fela Kuti’s birthday. You guys know I don’t play when it comes to my afrobeats, and I got my love for Fela from growing up in Nigeria. I lost all my home training when Kyekyeku performed Fela’s “Lady.” For me though, the best performance of the night was by Villy & the Xtreme Volumes. Absolutely electrifying. I was screaming YAAAASSS, hitting my shoki and waving my handkerchief like your overly turnt Auntie at the church BBQ.

Anyhoo! Before the event I was stressing about what to wear. It was laundry day and I needed to take a simple outfit from “okay” to “SLAY!” Et voila… a cutesy little black dress and some chic accessories.

image

This “little black dress” is actually a vest top from Dorothy Perkins, tucked into a flared mini skirt from my beloved Primark.

image

I paired this outfit with a gorgeous deep coral beaded necklace, accented with a chunky bronze section. It was a gift from a very dear friend, and I love it. I’m a fiend for pops of bright colour, so I set off the red/orange of the necklace with a fuchsia lip. This lipstick is “Spellbound” by CoverGirl- I picked it up in Sydney and it is BAE!

image

And on my tootsies? These fringed tan sandals from New Look. I bought these babies in the summer for Wireless Festival in London. My aim was to serve Chocolate Pocahontas realness. I love these sandals with shorts and little skirts. The swishing of the fringe with every step gives me life!

There you have it! I felt fabulous and also like I had cheated the universe by creating an outfit out of laundry day dregs. A little black dress will always be a winner for ladylike chic. I may swear like a sailor, but I am ALWAYS a lady. Like Fela said, “If you call am woman, African woman no go ‘gree… she go say I be Lady o…”

OOTD: Sunday Slayage

Hey pumpkins!

It’s my favourite day of the week YAAAAAASSS! I’m a Christian and God is totes my homeboy. Come Sunday, you’ll usually find me breaking it down in the aisle. I’m turning into one of those disrespectful church aunties who cut in and start singing “Igwe” when everyone else is still singing “Jehovah you are the most high.” I’m currently in the market for one of those lacy handheld fans and a tambourine. I’ll carry them in my purse in case the Holy Spirit shows up unexpectedly. Don’t try me.

I like to dress up for church. My look is feminine with a touch of vintage glam. Get into today’s OOTD!

Cute, non? I went for this adorable floral shirt from H&M (a little black vest underneath because #boobs), paired with a black pencil skirt from Primark and snakeskin heels from M&S. I’m so in love with mixing prints nowadays. Just adds a bit of whimsy. I accessorised with my mum’s Australian pearls, which are older than I am. They’re handy in case Pastor preaches on something scandalous and you need to clutch your pearls real quick.

And there you have it. As it says in the book of Divas, chapter 1 verse 1: Thou shalt SERVE. Happy Sunday dolls!

OOTD: Oy Vey!

Hey dolls!

Wa gwan? Friday is upon us (YAAAAAAASSSSSSSS) so I just wanted to share a cheeky little OOTD. I really need to do these more often, but now that I’ve moved thousands of miles away/have no friends, I have nobody to take pics of me. So hey any readers in Accra who want to be my new photographer, please contact me. Please note you will need to buy me daily fried plantain. Shout out to my BFF/photographer Miss Fu- I MISS YOU.

Anyhoo I digress. This is one of my favourite outfits. I work in digital marketing, so even Monday-Thursday doesn’t really call for strictly corporate wear. But I never met a pencil skirt I didn’t like, so I tend to dress up a bit for 4 days and then go casual on Fridays. Let’s get into this relaxed Friday slayage…

20150626_194517

So the petit jacké is from Primark (where else). I featured it and my M&S jeans in a previous post. I love the pop of colour from the jacket, and the fit of the jeans… sigh. These jeans are everything I didn’t know I needed in life. Handbag is from H&M and my faux leather sandals are also from Primark. Pretty sure the entire outfit cost less than your Tesco meal deal lunch.

But my fave part of this outfit is the “Oy Vey” vest I picked up from Forever 21 last summer in Vegas! I say all the time that I’m a Jewish grandmother in a Ghanaian diva’s body. I’m always napping, asking male friends when they’re going to settle down with a nice girl, and saying things like “ooh I’m working up quite a schvitz.” So I yelped when I saw this vest. Love it.

So yah when work is over on Friday, just throw off your jacket, pop your hip and go! I would normally add a splash of red lippie, gold hoop urrings and a pair of cute animal print heels. And you’re ready to flee the office! For added #WinningAtLife points try hanging your jacket on your chair and slinking out. Nobody will know you left early!

Ooh and if anyone wants to know about my hair (you should, because it’s fabulous), these are crotchet braids by my beloved hairstylist Cofo (based in North London). I dream it, and she always executes it to perfection! Check out her blog, and holla if you want her digits!

So what’s your go-to Friday outfit boo?

OOTD: Springtime Fine

Oh hey pumpkins! So spring has finally sprung in London and I am beyond thrilled. The sun is out, temperatures are rising and everywhere is green and lush. But my favourite thing about springtime? Flowers. I love flowers, and the entire city is in bloom.

image

So when I stepped out for Sunday brunch recently, I was serving flower power realness. Get involved…

image

I love this outfit. It’s casual but feminine, with just the right amount of YAAAASSS. The statement piece of course is this floral jacké (when a jacket is really fancy it becomes a jacké). I picked this up 2 summers ago at Primark and I’m pretty sure it cost me £12. With a piece like this, I like to keep everything else simple. I went for my favourite black sleeveless tee (£5), also from Primark circa 2013.

image

Now let’s get into these jeans real quick! As a curvy girl, I find buying jeans to be a tricky process. I have a lot of “bawdy” and a backside that won’t quit. My bum is like, “AND I AM TELLING YOU… I’M NOT GOING.” And that’s fine- I love my figure and I keep an eye out for things that flatter it. These jeans are the Petite Sculpt & Lift Skinny from Marks & Spencer, and they were £35. Oh yes- M&S of the sensible court shoes and diaphanous undies. But if you wade through all that stuff you can actually dig out some gems! Also no shade to M&S because they’re really starting to fix up. I rolled these jeans up ‘cos I’m teeny, and I like the uber-casual feel this adds.

Shall we talk accessories? My cross-body bag and cut-out sandals are both from Primark. Can’t remember exact prices but they were so cheap, they practically paid ME to take ’em. The 50s-style tortoiseshell sunglasses I got from River Island years ago. Instant chic for just £10.

image

And that’s it! A fresh, affordable spring outfit. I refuse to spend a lot of money on designer clothes (I need that cash for lipstick and travel). Whenever someone compliments me on what I’m wearing, I take great pleasure in telling them how little I spent on it. Why should I be embarrassed?

I’m my mother’s daughter, and she taught me to hunt down a bargain. She also taught me this: The dress doesn’t make the woman, the woman makes the dress. *Snap and a twirl*

OOTD: The Lazy Sunday

image

Sweethearts! Hi there. Just thought I’d share one of my favourite casual outfits. A couple of weeks back, a friend and I decided to treat ourselves to a day of lavish leisure (YES, hunty). We went to an incredible Pop Art exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, and then lunched it up like bosses. This is what I wore.

Faux leather jacké (a jacké is like a jacket but FANCY): I picked up this hot little item from Primark a couple of months ago. I love it cos it’s super soft and pliable (I don’t like those stiff leather jackets where you’re serving serious shoulders). Can’t remember how much it was exactly, but like I always say, it was Primark so… they probably paid me to take it ha!

Leopard print scarf: Ooh I think I found this while combing through the bargain bin at a charity shop. This glorious scarf was £2.50.

Grey long-sleeved tee: One of my best-loved staples from Cotton On Australia. Forgotten how much exactly but it was definitely cheap as chips.

Tribal-print leggings: I effing LOVE these leggings! I got these from Forever 21+ in Vegas last summer. Those folks at F21 did not come to play childish games- their plus size range was absolutely gorgeous. Fierce, feisty fashion for those of us serving a bit more BAWDY. I don’t remember how much these were, because I just threw my credit card at the counter and lost my mind.

Boots: Ooh chile. I got these brown booties from Primark last autumn, and lemme tell you, they have really stood the test of time! They cost £12 and they are the most comfortable and cute boots I own. Even though these things have been through struggle, devastation and all sorts of hellish weather, they’re still holding up. I actually like them even more now they’re all beat-up.

Handbag: I got this adorable tan handbag last summer at H&M. I want to say it was £35? LOLz! Why am I so bad at recalling prices? Is this why I have no money?

And there you have it! What’s your favourite play-date/casual outfit?

Christmas OOTD!

Hi darlings! How was Christmas?

Thought I’d post a little something for you to read while you play with your new Christmas pressies! What better day to share my first ever Outfit of The Day?

image

image

I decided to serve Christmas realness in all black with my new Very Favourite Dress. This gorgeous long-sleeved black bodycon number is from River Island (£30).

I also picked up the urrings from River Island (£4). They’re adorable sparkly gold hoops because it’s Jesus’ birthday and it’s what he would have wanted.

I’m also wearing little ankle booties from my beloved Primark, which I picked up last autumn. I can’t remember how much they were exactly, but let’s face it, it was Primark so probably about a fiver LOL!

And now let’s get into the face yah?

image

I went for luminous skin, bold brows, a smokey eye and a deep red lip.

image

image

Here’s what I used to create this look.
